Zseton

A munka anyaga, a plexi átlátszósága nagy előny, a sok hátrány mellett.
Ez kontrasztban áll a színével, a feketével.
A fekete a
black money-ra is utal.
A „
A szövegben megjelennek a currency jelek, úgy ahogy a másik oldalon a YEN jele a Hungary-ba. A Let’s not get carried away rövid mondat felhívás és figyelmeztetés mindenki számára. (It also can be Interpreted in this way): ez a legtágabb értelmezést megengedő zseton, ahogy azt a felirat is sugallja. (minden rendben): megvan mind a 10 ujjunk, mégsem tudjuk elkapni a homokórában zuhanó, ágakat szárnyként használó humanoidot.

Token
The coins has two kind of approaches to the present condition of living in this region, called lately Hungary: a direct and concrete (Moszkva Squere), and the poetic one (Ten Fingers).
The topic of the piece is political, economical and social.
On every piece you can find one “locator”, what is really important, not to forget where and when this things happened: Hungary • 2011.
The translucency of the coins gives us an extra possibility of interpretation, the color drives us to the black money, the widely used currency this days.

Reminder

Unfree Freedom

The Center for Book and Paper Arts Announces Fall Spotlight Exhibition

Unfree Freedom: An Exploration of Identity in Central Europe

Curated by Janeil Engelstad

October 28 – December 10, 2011

One of the defining events of the 20th century was the momentous fall of the
Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989. For many Central and Eastern European artists the political and social changes that followed the break-up of the Soviet- bloc fundamentally changed the subject and style of their work. This Spotlight Exhibition examines how blacklisted artists responded to the restraints imposed on them under communist regimes and how their work changed when those systems fell apart. Featured artists include former dissidents who took the view that being blacklisted was a refuge away from the government mandate of making work in the Socialist Realism style . . . a place and state of being that Slovak artist Rudolf Sikora termed, an “unfree freedom”. The exhibition also includes work by young, emerging artists who are responding to history and a new set of freedoms and constraints, brought about by democracy, capitalism and globalization, including Fontarte (PL), Innen (HU), Magda Stanová (SK), Péter Szabó (HU) and Júlia Vécsei (HU). Unfree Freedom is being produced in conjunction with Voices From the Center: Central Europeans Reflect on Life Before and After the Fall of the Berlin Wall a project and exhibition produced by Janeil Englestad at threewalls from Oct 28 – Dec 10. Research for Unfree Freedom has been partially funded from a generous contribution from the Trust for Mutual Understanding.

Do contemporary artists still dream when the biggest challenge for visual art is to produce vigilant reactions on the social and political reality of the present?
The goal of the international group exhibition is to show possible answers for basic questions, which try to find out, if it is possible to produce art, which reacts on the social reality, but goes beyond the notion of the document, and documentarism – and beyond criticalism as method as well, which became a more and more static aestehtical form. Are such realms really totally exploited as the visual language of surrealist film, with it’s confrontative system based on associations, or the absurdely co-ordinative constructions of collages, or the poesis of conceptualism, or the performativity of public actions? The other aim of the exhibition is, to construct a mental collage - expanded in the gallery space - of the Eastern-European identity, which can be described only by a more and more complicated formula. Thus the set of the exhibited artworks reflects on the process, which mixed up the main and forever lasting exotic feature of the region: the post-communist transit-state, with the neoliberal economic world order, which suffers critical blows and cracks in the present day. This pile of symptoms makes social inequality and political radicalism more visible, not only regionally any more, but globally as well.
